Q. Where is the Festival held?
A. The Wintergreen Music Festival is based at Wintergreen Resort in Nellysford, Virginia in the Blue Ridge Mountains. While our large orchestra concerts are held at the Dunlop Pavilion at the Resort (new location this year!), many chamber performances and Academy concerts are presented in the Valley and at neighboring wineries, cideries, breweries, and venues. Our student ensembles often play throughout the area in coffee shops, galleries, mountain overlooks – they'll even take over Charlottesville for a day!
Q. WHERE IS THE DUNLOP PAVILION THIS YEAR?
A. We are pleased to announce that the Dunlop Pavilion will be located in a new place this year — Lot 2 next to the Adaptive Sports building. We have decided to move the Michael White Performance Center to the slope pad on the mountain (where the Dunlop was located last year). We are so appreciative of our partnership with Wintergreen Resort, who help us with student housing, rehearsal spaces, and other important Festival logistics, all while working on their own projects that help make Wintergreen the beautiful and captivating Destination that our concert-goers love so much.
Q. What kind of music will I hear?
A. Artistic Director Erin Freeman has a masterful way of creating concerts that have something for everyone. We focus on classical music (nothing pairs better with the scenery) in small ensembles and in four weekends of full orchestral concerts. Guest artists travel from all over the country to perform with our fully professional Wintergreen Festival Orchestra. We love to make classical music as accessible and immersive as possible. So throughout the Festival, you might hear a string quartet at Bold Rock Hard Cider, or sample a trio with your tasting at Veritas Vineyard & Winery, or even enjoy music with your brunch at Devils Backbone Basecamp Brewpub & Meadows.
We have pops programming and movies set to new, live music for our Fiery Fridays audiences (previously held on Wednesdays), and casual concerts with cocktails on Tuesdays and Thursdays as part of our Mix, Mingle & Music series. MountainTop Masterworks will impress you with a full orchestra and the world's best guest artists performing on top of a mountain – what could be better?
Q. How do I purchase tickets?
A. This year, packages and passes are available for purchase on April 1. Single tickets are on sale April 15. There are three easy ways to purchase tickets: online, by phone, or at the Box Office.
Online: Enter the ticket purchase portal online. You can search concerts by keyword or browse by selecting concert and event groupings from the pull-down tab labeled "Select a Catalog". Add tickets to your cart and keep browsing if you'd like – they will all be accounted for when you're ready to check out. The ticket purchase portal will open in a new tab so that you can easily return to Wintergreen-music.org when you've finished your transaction.
When you complete your purchase, you will have the option to create an account. We recommend you take advantage of this new feature as it will allow you to easily log back in at any point to add more tickets, update your mailing or contact information, and more. If you created an account last year, you can access the log in portal through our website anytime!
By phone: Call 434.361.0541 to speak with our friendly staff and order tickets by phone. Call Monday and Friday from 10:00 - 4:00 pm and Wednesday from 10:00 - 12:30 pm. We'll process your ticket order and have them ready for pick up at will call from July 8-August 4.

Q. Where do I pick up my tickets?
A. All tickets may be picked up at the Festival Box Office or at concert sites one hour prior to performances. Your purchases to tickets online will be confirmed by email, which will serve as a receipt. Your tickets will be held at will call until you can collect them.
Q. When is the Festival Box Office open?
A. From July 8-August 4, 2019, the Box Office will be open for your convenience in the Mountain Inn Lobby, Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am-2:00 pm. The Box Office will also open onsite one hour prior to every concert.

Q. Are my tickets refundable?
A. All ticket sales are final. No refunds will be given.
Q. Can I reserve seats at performances?
A. All seating is general admission and first come, first served. While we recommend that patrons arrive early for the best choice of seating, every seat in the main concert venue (Dunlop Pavilion) offers an excellent viewing and listening experience.
B. NEW THIS YEAR: Exclusive to Festival Season Passholders only — you may arrive 90 minutes prior to MountainTop Masterworks concerts to reserve your favorite seats! Doors open to the general public 5 minutes before Pre-Concert Conversations.
Q. Are performances held outdoors or indoors?
A. Our main performance tent, the Dunlop Pavilion, offers the best of both worlds. While providing excellent protection from the elements to attendees, musicians, and instruments, the side panels remain open during good weather allowing us to take advantage of the stunning mountaintop views and cool breezes.
Q. Are the performance venues handicapped accessible?
A. Yes. All of the Wintergreen Music Festival performance venues are fully accessible. The Dunlop Pavilion is situated on a level pad and there are no stairs. Persons who need the accessibility option can be dropped off near the venue. Special parking is available near the tent location, and a golf cart shuttle is available before and after all performances to provide a ride to the tent entrance. Parking spaces for those needing accessibility accommodations will also be available near the Dunlop Pavilion. Accessible restrooms are located nearby the new performance venue.
Q. Where do I park?
A. As you approach Wintergreen Resort's Mountain Inn (approximately 3 miles from the gate house at the bottom of the mountain), there will be signs to the “Dunlop Pavilion.” Follow signs toward concert parking or the Lookout to park near the performance location or the Michael White Performance Center. Additional parking information will be shared in the coming months.
Q. Are performances held during inclement weather?
A. The show will go on, rain or shine. We will update our website and Facebook page with any communication related to any changes.
Q. Are food and beverages available onsite?
A. Wine, beer, soft drinks, and bottled water are available for purchase just outside the Dunlop Pavilion prior to performances and during intermission. Profits from your concessions purchases directly benefit Wintergreen Music! Keep your eyes open for "guest bartenders" from neighborhood wineries, breweries, cideries, and distilleries.
Wintergreen Resort offers a variety of options for meals before or after an event, and The Market at Wintergreen has a great selection of gourmet deli sandwiches and salads, fresh baked goods and pizza.
Q. Where should I stay during the Wintergreen Music Festival?

Just mention that you're attending the Festival! It's the perfect way to getaway for a week, a weekend, or for the entire Festival.
Q. What other recreational activities are available in the area?
A. Many performances are held at Wintergreen Resort where patrons can also take advantage of the many activities offered by Wintergreen Resort, which include hiking, swimming, golf and spa services. The surrounding areas of the Rockfish Valley and Route 151 in Nelson County is home to many of the area's best breweries, vineyards, cideries, distilleries, and restaurants. In between concerts, take a leisurely scenic drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway and/or Skyline Drive, accessible just minutes from Wintergreen. Visit Nelson County Tourism to see everything "the sunrise side of the Blue Ridge" has to offer and find out why our Community is truly a Destination to remember.
Q. Is the Wintergreen Music Festival appropriate for children?
A. Kids are welcome to attend all performances! Tickets priced at $11 are available to children ages 10-18 for most performances and events. Children under the age of 10 are admitted free of charge! New this year: children 18 and under are welcome to attend MountainTop Masterworks concerts for free. Exceptions include the Opening Night Concert & Party, Cooking Classes, Specials, or fundraising events.
Wintergreen Resort's fun-filled Treehouse childcare program is available Tuesday-Saturday during the summer.
Q. Is Wintergreen Music part of Wintergreen Resort?
A. Wintergreen Music is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization separate from Wintergreen Resort. The Resort is a major sponsor of Wintergreen Music and while we would not be successful without their partnership, we are managed, staffed, and operated separately. We are very grateful for the support of Wintergreen Resort, of the Wintergreen Property Owners Association, and many other sponsors, partners, and community organizations.
Q. what happened to wintergreen performing arts?
A. Wintergreen Performing Arts changed its name to Wintergreen Music in 2019. Following a strategic planning process, a rebranding effort was made to consolidate the many previous names of the organization (i.e. Wintergreen Performing Arts, WPA; Wintergreen Summer Music Festival, WSMF; Wintergreen Summer Music Academy, WSMA; Wintergreen Summer Music Festival & Academy, WSMF/A) into a name and into branding that better reflects the unique experience of the Festival.
