Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo’s compositional style surprises, as he infuses sacred elements and cinematic motion pictures with the classical styles of Brahms, Britten, and Bach. Join the Wintergreen Music Festival Orchestra and singers from across the country under the direction of Artistic Director Erin Freeman in a reflective morning meditation.

We welcome acclaimed pianist, Sean Chen, to the stage for Dmitri Shostakovich’s humorous, dark, and exciting first piano concerto, under the direction of Maestra Michelle Merrill alongside trumpeter David Vonderheide and the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra. To honor the late Michael White – composer, teacher, consummate Mozart fan, and beloved friend of Wintergreen Music – this concert is specially programmed with Mozart’s “Great G minor Symphony,” rustling underpinnings, brooding melodies, and a fiery finale worthy of Don Giovanni himself.

This concert starts with a double piano concerto a la Shostakovich before lighting up the screen with four Hearst Corporation animated shorts from the 1910s, complete with scores composed and conducted by our LEAD Cooperative students and played by professional Wintergreen Festival Artists. Then to the main event: a new version of Orson Welles’ 1938 comedy Too Much Johnson, with a brand new score composed by the one and only Daron Hagen! We’ll save you a seat.
